FROM A CHESS-PLAYING COMPUTER TO CONTROLLING THE EMPLOYEE LIFE CYCLE
Can be called the best example of artificial intelligence. Starting from "thinking machines” in the 1950’s, presently, generative artificial intelligence consumes data, learns from it, and generates data with similar characteristics like text, computer codes, audio, video, images, etc.
Using AI in HR significantly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, when companies had to search for alternative solutions for almost all steps of HR processes. This made the companies identify the potential use of AI in streamlining HR processes.
According to the 2020 RELX Emerging Tech Executive Report, 68% of companies increased their AI investment during the pandemic, and 81% of companies now report using AI technologies. This indicates a growing recognition of the benefits AI can bring to HR.

Sri Lankan companies are using AI.
Here are some of the companies that are using AI in their work.
According to Brandix
“Stepping into the next frontier of innovation, Brandix is one of the first Sri Lankan companies to come on board with Copilot for Microsoft 365, the company’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) assistance feature.“
“Last week, Brandix conducted its inaugural Copilot AI training programme, strengthening its foray into the sphere of artificial intelligence. Built on OpenAI’s GPT4 through Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, Copilot for Microsoft 365 is set to redefine how industries operate and become one of the most powerful productivity tools on the planet. “
“Brandix has spearheaded inspiration and growth in Sri Lanka’s apparel industry over the past five decades and was also the first Sri Lankan company to work with the software company during the deployment of Microsoft Enterprise in the early 2000s. Brandix has placed digitalization at the helm of its transformation journey and will redefine its competitive advantage and progressive working culture based on adopting AI across the value chain. Adopting this cutting-edge technology is part of the company’s digital transformation journey with a vision of a ‘Smarter Brandix’. “
Era Biz Solutions
“This offshore software development company in Sri Lanka has offices in the UK. The team has a versatile group of developers for software development, mobile application development, and web development. The four main product types at Era Biz Solutions are staff augmentation, dedicated team, staff augmentation, full project outsourcing, and build-operat-Transfer (BOT).”
VeracityAI
“This company specialises in data science and AI integration by assisting organisations in making strategic decisions based on data-driven insights. The key areas where AI services have been functionalized include insurance technology, gaming, financial markets, and cognitive linguistic applications.”
Zone24x7
“Founded in 2004, Zone24x7 serves leading Tier 1 retailers and hi-tech companies with its specialised technology consulting and engineering services. This company has developed a product called AI-Based Machine Vision, which can recognise patterns and generate prediction models for clients by gaining insights from video footage, including emotion detection on human faces.”
While AI has become a powerful tool that plays a major role in the current business context, there are cons as well.
It is necessary that human involvement be there to validate and refine recommendations provided by AI when screening candidates. It’s always important not to rely solely on AI, as it could suggest similar candidates for your business due to inadequate data availability during the analysis. This will also lead to inaccurate data. Human involvement in interviews and deciding the best fit for the organisation’s culture still remains important, and AI has never fully replaced the involvement of humans in picking the best fit for another human being.
ACKNOWLEDGE THAT OCCATIONAL ERRORS CAN STILL OCCCUR IN EMERGING AREAS OF AI
